FAQ
Frequently asked questions.
What the platform does, how it works alongside UNOS and OPTN, and where it goes next.
Paxera Health is an AI-native platform designed to optimize kidney donor-recipient matching. By leveraging advanced machine learning and network-based optimization, the platform identifies better matches, reduces organ discard rates, and improves transplant outcomes for both patients and donors.
Current systems rely largely on rule-based allocation and limited optimization across complex donor-recipient networks. Paxera Health enhances this process by modeling thousands of potential match combinations simultaneously, incorporating clinical, logistical, and compatibility variables, and continuously learning from new data to improve matching accuracy. Rather than replacing existing systems, it augments them to support smarter and more efficient decision-making.
Paxera Health is not intended to replace existing organizations such as UNOS or the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN). Instead, it is designed to integrate with and support current infrastructure by providing advanced decision-support tools that enhance existing workflows without disrupting them.
Thousands of kidneys go unused each year due to suboptimal matching, time constraints, or logistical inefficiencies. Paxera Health addresses this by identifying viable matches more quickly, expanding compatible recipient pools, and optimizing allocation decisions to better align with real-world constraints, ultimately increasing utilization.
Improving equity in transplantation is a core focus of Paxera Health. The platform is designed to expand access for underrepresented communities by reducing systemic biases in allocation, increasing match opportunities across diverse populations, and promoting fairness while maintaining strong clinical outcomes.
Paxera Health is designed for transplant centers, organ procurement organizations, researchers, and policymakers who are involved in the transplantation ecosystem and are seeking more advanced tools to improve decision-making and outcomes.
Paxera Health's long-term vision is to build the infrastructure for a smarter and more equitable transplant ecosystem, where every viable organ is used efficiently and every patient has a fair opportunity to receive a transplant.
While Paxera Health is currently focused on kidney transplantation due to its scale and complexity, the underlying technology is designed to be adaptable and may be extended to other organ systems in the future.
